I thought the lecture about the history of British Theater was very interesting. Since I don’t know a lot about theater, I didn’t know that London was considered the theater capital of the world. Having over 51 theaters in a one square mile radius is quite a lot, and the fact that it employs over 41,000 people is huge. The theater industry is making a lot of money for the city and as well as the people who live here. Without this industry, many people would be without jobs, and it could even hurt the economy with the loss of money.
I also found it very interesting that some theater performances were only available to wealthy and educated people. There were also areas where some people would sit, especially in the globe theater, that were in order to show your social status or class rank. Going to the theater in this time was considered a privilege and some what of an honor.
One of the other facts that caught my attention from the theater lecture was about Shakespeare. I thought it was so interesting that Shakespeare is said to have invented over 1,000 words that we now use in our language today. That is a lot of words that we speak in our everyday language.
